Young
Persons Referral Scheme
Some information about the service
The Young Persons Referral Scheme offers information and individual counselling
and support to young people up to the age of 18 in the West Lothian area, who
are experiencing problems with either their own or a family member’s
drug/alcohol use.
This
leaflet describes what the young person’s referral scheme is and what your
rights are as a service user.
If you have any questions after reading this
leaflet, please contact
Margot Ferguson, the Service Manager.
If you wish, you can gain access to our Family
Support Network, which meets on a monthly basis.
Referrals
You cannot refer your self
to the scheme but referrals from the Police, Reporter to the Children’s
Hearing, Social Work, Education or Health are all accepted on your behalf.
The Project Worker for the
scheme meets with people by appointment. Meetings take place mainly at local
health centres, but can also be arranged for other venues such as school or your
own home in some circumstances.
The premises in Craigshill
do not have suitable access arrangements for people with physical disabilities;
however, we can access suitable locations, if necessary.
On no account will we
tolerate aggressive or threatening behaviour.
Confidentiality
Any information given by you remains confidential.
You, as a young person are seen as a client in your
own right and as such can be seen on your own without another person present.
The West Lothian Drug & Alcohol Service
respects that information given by you is confidential and would not pass any
information on without your consent.
We operate an open access policy and you are
entitled to read any information held about you, by the Service.
You may also see information given by anyone else
e.g. your Social Worker, partner or relatives. However, like you they have to
give permission for this to be shared.
Exceptions
Exceptions may occur if the Project Worker
considers that you are in a dangerous situation or that you are a threat to
others.
In such circumstances information may have to be
passed on and a full explanation offered to you as to why this is being done.
