ABOUT SPOD
SPOD is a national charity and unique organisation that promotes people's rights to equal choice and access to advice, education, counselling and where appropriate, treatment in all areas of sexual and personal relationships.
SPOD recognises the central importance of the social model of disability whilst also acknowledging that professionals have therapeutic and medical expertise that can be invaluable in ensuring disabled people are enabled to make informed and free choices in their personal and sexual relationships.
SPOD is a client led organisation that tries to respond to what disabled people themselves want and, as such, see as essential the participation of disabled people in SPOD both as members, counsellors, employees and council members.
SPOD aims to ensure that disabled people's rights and needs in this area are placed in the forefront when organisations and statutory bodies establish policies and guidelines in this area.
SPOD believes that disable people should not be disadvantaged or restricted in their sexual and personal choices purely because they require the assistance of others in order to exercise those choices and preferences.
