Charity calls for 'Walkies' for world record
Over 3,000 dog walkers are needed for an attempt to bring the record for the world's largest dog walk to the UK.
The Scottish SPCA will attempt to enter the
record books at the Royal Highland Showground, Edinburgh on Sunday September 15,
by beating the current record of 3,117 walkers, which was made in August after
the "mighty Texas Dog Walk".
This week event organiser Una Glenn measured the route, with the help of German
Shepherd Jed, an ex-stray re-homed by the society to Lothian and Borders Police.
Commenting Una Glenn said "In order to enter the Guiness Book of Records,
we need 3,200 dogs and their humans to set-off within a one hour period and
complete the 3 mile course that we are measuring today.
"World Record Walkies" should be
great fun and all the "Old Boys and Girls" re-homed from Scottish SPCA
animal welfare centres will be given a tartan ribbon to wear on their collars
and each walkers name will be recorded for posterity.
Each walker will be part of a group and each group will be allocated a time to
set-off and to make sure the day runs smoothly, we need each dog walker to
register before the 23rd August 2002.
Dog walkers can register by telephoning Una in 0141 810 8084 or log onto www.scottishdogwalk.org

The web site for Scotland's premier nite spot, based in Bathgate,
is aimed squarely at those who frequent the place. It has
a pointless splash intro which can be by-passed but that takes you
to a large logo which has to be clicked to enter the site for proper.
So, two pointless pages before you get anywhere. It is actually
a very informative site about the facility but unless you have a
pretty powerful computer you will struggle through this site as
it also has background music (always a strain on computer resources).
