The West Lothian Laryngectomy Club
A registered charity affiliated to a national organisation for men and women who have had their ‘voice box’ removed. To help adjust to losing your voice, to help your family and friends, to help return to society, work and livi49.

Meetings are held to enjoy companionship by organising functions and outings. Create funds by raffles and sponsorship, share our problems and lots more. Such as some purchase of equipment, speech aids, offer help in our ENT wards and ENT department in any way that we can plus help our ENT consultant too in this fight against throat cancers and lots more.   Meetings are held on the last Monday of the month in the parent-craft room at St John’s Hospital 7.30-9.15pm.

NASS West Lothian (Ankylosing Spondylitis)

Physiotherapy classes run under supervision of Hospital staff at St John’s Hospital on Monday nights at 5.30pm. These consist of hydrotherapy sessions in the pool and exercise sessions in the gymnasium. These sessions are open to any sufferers of Ankylosing Spondylitis. Fees payable per week are £4.00 or £2.00 for unemployed or pensioners

W.O.R.D.S (West Lothian Opportunity for  Recreation for Dysphasia Sufferers)
To provide recreational opportunities for dysphasic people, and their carers, resident in West Lothian, who have been referred to WORDS by the speech therapy department at St John’s Hospital. Weekly meetings are held at Braid House Day Centre on Thursdays from 1.30-3.30pm providing games and other activities. Occasional outings are also enjoyed.

ABICAS is a new support group for people who care for someone with a brain injury.

It was founded by Anne McIvor, and aims to meet monthly, so that carers can share their views and find support. It also aims to raise awareness and highlight needs to service providers. Anne would like to hear from anyone caring for someone with a brain injury.

Community Equipment Store
(West Lothian Council / West Lothian Healthcare NHS Trust)

A council run jointly funded organisation. To issue equipment to aid independence in the community and to allow individuals to be nursed at home. 
Access to the equipment is through professional assessment. This is typically staff based at a Health Centre or Social Work Centre. For simple OT Equipment a scheme exists for self-assessment. This can be accessed from any Social Work Department or Council Information Office.
