LINLITHGOW LINK |
Linlithgow Link was born in 1979.
The health professionals who worked with people in their own homes recognised that people needed a bit of extra help which volunteers could provide. A lonely, housebound person could benefit from a visit or someone who had difficult getting about could be driven to a health appointment.
Linlithgow Linkers have helped thousands of people since then and this valuable work continues today!

Car Service
Referrals
are usually made from the Health Centre to make sure that the criteria of
“people should be unable to travel by public transport!” is met.
Once a person has been referred they can then contact the office direct
for further service.
We
need to know how the mobile the passenger is e.g. do they need help getting into
the car, pushed in a wheelchair and will they have an escort.
A
Link Co-ordinator contacts a suitable Link Volunteer, arranges the Car Service
requesting a pickup time. The
Co-ordinator then contacts the passenger with details of the Linker’s name and
time of pickup, and the cost of the journey.
This
is currently calculated at 30p per mile. The
driver receives the reimbursement direct from the passenger.
We have a folding
wheelchair, childcare seats and disabled discs which are issued when
appropriate. In
2000 our drivers carried 564 journeys, covering approximately 6800 miles!
