WHY
NOT JOIN THE WEST LOTHIAN DRUG & ALCOHOL SERVICE TEAM OF SESSIONAL WORKERS?
West Lothian Drug & Alcohol Service is an innovative voluntary organisation. Formed in 1985, we now have an established reputation for our preventive and caring services in drug, alcohol, tobacco, HIV/AIDS and sexual health.
Our education work aims to prevent young people from becoming involved in substance misuse and to reduce the risks associated with substance use. We do this by providing accurate information, encouraging debate and discussion and allowing young people to develop the skills needed to avoid substance misuse. We work with school staff to develop our materials, and complement ongoing drug, tobacco, alcohol and sexual health education work within schools.
We work closely with many of the Primary and Secondary schools in West Lothian, and offer education sessions to pupils throughout the school year.
Each year we work with over 4000 pupils. Because of the large numbers involved, we employ a team of Sessional workers to help us deliver education sessions.
Some Sessional workers work for several hours a week during term times. Others work an hour or two each term. The time commitment depends on your availability and the number of sessions we offer. Opportunities may be available to work with young people or adults in other settings. We offer a Sessional rate of pay and travel expenses.

Each worker is responsible for working with a group of up to 15 young people. Sessions can be as short as an hour or as long as three hours depending on the subject, age and the nature of the group. WLDAS provide all materials needed to deliver the sessions and Sessional workers are expected to use only the materials provided. When working in a school, all materials have been sanctioned in advance by the Head Teacher.
We recognise the importance of offering support, supervision and training to our Sessional staff and are happy to help Sessional workers develop their skills and improve their knowledge. Many of our Sessional workers are students and some have had placements at WLDAS as part of their studies.
