Almondell Country Park
Features include a large aquarium show, slide show and natural history
corner. Seasonal activities and guided walks held throughout the
year. The park's opening times vary, it is free and has disabled

Almond Valley
Heritage Centre
Includes the Scottish Shale Oil Museum with local history displays
and exhibitions. Also a working farm with traditional livestock, a restored
working 18th century watermill and indoor adventure playground. The centre
is open daily from 10.00am - 5.00pm, access costs money and there is disabled

Arniston House
Fine Georgian mansion built in 1726 for Robert Dundas, later Lord
President of the Court of Session, by the Scots architect William Adam. It is
located off the B6372 (Temple direction), off A7, 11 miles S of Edinburgh and is
open from July to mid September on a Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday from
2.00pm - 5.00pm and April to June Tuesday only with tours leaving at 2.00pm and
3.30pm. It has disabled access and costs money to enter. Tel: 01875

Bathgate
is a burgh in West Lothian
that has a unique place in Scotland's
fascinating history. In 1987, Westlothiana Lizzae, the world's
oldest known reptile fossil was discovered in Bathgate. The fossil itself
today has a home in The Museum of Scotland.
Bennie Museum
Display of artefacts on Bathgate town, most of which are permanent
features. Special exhibitions held on a regular basis on various subjects
such as toys and local anniversaries. Education programmes for
schools. The museum is based at 9/11 Mansefield Street, Bathgate and is
opened from April - September daily from April - September from 10.00am -
4.00pm, October to March from 11.00am - 3.30pm. The museum has disabled
access and is free to enter.

Dalmeny
House
Family
home of the Earl of Rosebery. Take a walk in the grounds and along the
shore. It is located 7 miles W of Edinburgh, off the A90 and is open from
July to August on a Sunday, Monday & Tuesday from 2.00pm - 5.00pm with last
admission at 4.45pm. It has disabled access and costs money to enter.

This is a relatively new site and

Excavations
2000 In 1999 a number of areas were examined on the Law. In particular it was
realised just how complex the remains on the top of the hill actually were. The
cairn is now thought to be the remains of a Bronze Age burial cairn. Lots of
interesting photo’s to view.
Gorgie City Farm
Large selection of farm animals, including cattle, sheep, pigs, hens,
goats, ducks and a pony. Also visitor centre, craftwork, picnic sites,
play area and education centre. It is located 2 miles W of Edinburgh city
centre on the A71 Gorgie Road. It is open from March to October
daily from 9.30am - 4.30pm and November to March 9.30am - 4.00pm and has
disabled access. Entrance is also free.

Plight
of the failing historic Howden House
House of the Binns
Owned by the National Trust for
Scotland and home to the Dalyell family since 1612, the house features
collections of family portraits, furniture and porcelain. Guided tours,
woodland walks and party bookings by arrangement. The house is located 4
miles E of Linlithgow off the A904 and is open from 1 May to 30 September,
Saturday to Thursday from 1.30pm - 5.00pm. It has limited disabled access
and costs money to enter.

MUSEUM AT MANSE ROAD BASIN
Open Easter to October Saturdays & Sundays 2 - 5 pm, July and August
weekdays 2-5 pm, Admission Free.
The Canal Museum is housed in a former canal stable. It exhibits records,
photographs and artefacts.
Linlithgow Palace
Beautiful loch side ruin of the 15th century palace which was the
birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Visitors can still see the chapel,
great hall and quadrangle. It is located in the centre of Linlithgow and
is open from April to September - Monday to Sunday from 9.30am - 6.30pm, September
- March Monday to Saturday from 9.30am - 4.30pm and Sunday from 2.00pm -
4.30pm. It has limited disabled access and costs money to enter
Trips to the Falkirk Wheel
LINLITHGOW Union Canal Society is running trips to the newly opened Falkirk Wheel on the last Sunday of each month until October.
During July and August the LINLITHGOW Union Canal Society is open during the week and offers half-hour town trips. At weekends, there's also a two-and-a-half-hour trip to the Avon Aqueduct. The museum and tea room are also open.
