HBOS launches new foundation

The Halifax Bank of Scotland has launched a new fund which aims to offer charities and communities the facilities to help themselves.

The HBOS Foundation will seek to support and work with charitable and not-for-profit organisations across the UK, which support people and their local communities.  A total of £20 million will be earmarked over the next five years for community giving and focused on two guiding themes; money advice  and financial literacy, and developing and improving communities.

The foundation will also incorporate a public policy research programme, unique to the banking industry, which will identify how policy and social issues affect the different regions of the country in relation to the areas supported by the HBOS Foundation.

Phil Hodkinson who is chief executive of insurance and investment with HBOS, said “HBOS recognises the importance of re-investing in the communities where we live and work.  By concentrating our funding through the Foundation we will be able to achieve more and also ensure that our work is sustainable.

“We also expect the Foundation to create a network where we can match the needs of local communities and charities with the resources we have”

One of the first organisations to secure support from the foundation was ‘Grounds for Learning’ – a new national project that will transform school grounds within Scotland’s 34 Social Inclusion partnership areas.

Charities and community organisations seeking funding support from the HBOS Foundation should contact Bruce Lowe on 0131 243 7058.

THE TUDOR TRUST (click on the title to enter site)

The Tudor Trust makes grants to charities and organisations with charitable objectives. Support is given both for capital and revenue costs. The Trustees decide which charitable purposes are to be funded. Priorities in grant making are constantly evolving and a full policy review is undertaken every three years.

The Trust is fairly selective in what it supports within relatively broad areas of activity. These guidelines give an overview of the Trust's current interests. This is not a comprehensive list; however, it offers applicants a firm indication of the Trust's priorities and what organisations and activities are unlikely to receive a grant. Demand for funding greatly exceeds availability of funds and not all applications meeting the current criteria will be successful.

The Tudor Trust is keen to support organisations and groups which help people to fulfil their potential and make a positive contribution to the communities in which they live. The Trust will focus its funding where there is significant need in both rural and urban communities. Schemes addressing rural isolation will receive special consideration. Projects which offer accessible, integrated and sustained support to people who are vulnerable or only just managing are of particular interest. The Trust will target projects working alongside young people (9-18 year olds), families and older people livi49 in disadvantaged or marginalised communities.
Overall success rate 29%.
