EMPLOYER INFORMATION LEAFLET

What is Getting into Gear?

Getting into Gear is a West Lothian Drug and Alcohol Service initiative which aims to assist ex/stabilised drug users back into mainstream society through overcoming the barriers to employment.  The project has been established to alleviate the social exclusion faced by ex-drug users by looking at individual needs and providing training, learning and development opportunities.  Our participants are treated as individuals and therefore a tailor made package is available to them along with personal guidance, counseling and training in job seeking skills.  We aim to ensure that our participants are ready for the modern day workplace and we will provide them through the transition from unemployment to paid employment.

Why should I get involved?

We believe that everyone deserves a second chance in life. We are dealing with individuals who are highly motivated to move on in life, secure gainful employment and make a valuable contribution to their local community.

Many organisations will unknowingly have drug users on their pay role.  We are honest from the outset in both our expectations and what we are able to deliver.

You can help by offering our participants the chance to gain some up to date work experience through a Work Placement.  Participants would attend for a minimum of half a day per week for a number of weeks.

A Work Taster – the chance to come along for a day or so and find out what is required of your workplace and what the actual work involves.

Visits – an organised visit to your premises to get a feel for the working environment.

Presentations - an organised visit to our premises to discuss your requirements with our participants.

Mentoring service – If you employ one of our participants, a mentor would be valuable in assisting them to integrate into the workplace.  Full training and support are available frm the Getting into Gear staff.
