BRITISH RED CROSS |
|---|
The British red Cross gives skilled and impartial care to people in need and in crisis, in their own homes and in the community, at home and abroad, in peace and in war.
Medical loan: For people who are ill or disabled, even temporarily, having access to basic medical equipment can make a real difference to their quality of life. Our Medical Loan service offers the short-term loan of equipment such as wheelchairs, commodes and backrests, giving practical assistance as well as increased independence and a greater sense of personal dignity.
Transport & Escort: There are many reasons why people cannot easily use ordinary transport and they all make travelling difficult and stressful. Our drivers and escorts can help people who cannot travel on their own to make essential journeys, perform every day tasks and get out to meet family and friends. The service enable people - often those who are older, frail or disabled - to enjoy greater independence and a wider variety of life experiences
Health and Social Care: This range of services is targeted to offer the most effective help to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Some Branches offer a Home from Hospital and Domiciliary Respite Care services including teaching skin camouflage to people with disfigurements or skin conditions, skin care techniques for visually impaired people and therapeutic hand, neck and shoulder massage. These services offer vital one-to-one contact and personal care which can relieve stress, assist relaxation and promote a sense of well-being.
First Aid:
As well as providing First Aid cover at public events, the British Red Cross
offers the same skilled and professional training to industry, giving employees
the practical skills they need to keep themselves and their colleagues safe.
Courses are approved by the Health & Safety Executive and
include: Statutory Certified Course, Basic Fist Aid, Emergency
First Aid, Refresher Course and Manual Handling.
Specialised
training is also available in a number of areas, including First Aid for child
carers, catering, sports and driving.
For more information, contact the Training Administrator on 0131 557 9898
Message & Tracing:
One
of the many unfortunate consequences of conflict or disaster is that family
members may become separated or lose touch. This international service
helps find relatives who have been separated in such circumstances and, if it
their wish, re-establishes contact. Family messages are also relayed in
crisis situations where normal communication is disrupted, such as refugee
camps.
